What is Computer?

Computer Definition: 

    The computer is a speedy and complex electronic device that can communicate various types of data in collaboration with various tools. It can store even a large amount of information and follow the instructions correctly and it also performs mathematical, logical and other tasks in step-by-step manner and gives the necessary results correctly.

How a computer works: 

Normally computer works in three steps....

   Input--->Processing--->Output

Input unit: 

    In input unit section we give some instruction to CPU (Central Processing Unit) to get desired results. Ex. if you want to play a music in your computer you have to go on the directory where you save the music file then select the music after that you can play the music. Here you can use mouse or keyboard as a input device.

Name of some input device: keyboard,  mouse, touch screen, light pen, scanner, joystick, bar code reader, fingerprint scanner, webcam, voice recognizer, remote, OMR, graphics tablet etc.

Processing: CPU (Central Processing Unit)

is a brain of a computer system such as human brain is very very important part, by which we make all decision at every moment in our life. CPU is also is called brain of a computer because its makes all processes in a computer after getting a input. After complete the processing it send result to output unit.

Ex. same when you give instruction to play a music by input device, CPU decide by operating system (OS) how to play the music and which media player have to use.

Output unit: 

    After complete the processes we get the result in this section by various types of output devices. Ex. same when you play the music you can hear the music by output device speaker or headphone.

Name of some output device: monitor, printer, speaker, headphone, TV, projector, latest technology 3D printer etc.

Characteristics of computers:

• The computer can work for a long time, which is not possible for humans.
• The computer has control over many different types of complex machines like robots, 3D printer, satellite system.
• Computers can exchange information quickly. 

Uses of computer: 

In this time computer used in everywhere, some of these are down below-

• Most of the educational sector (like school, colleges) used computer to give practical training.
• The computer is used in medical department. Ex. X-ray, scanning, sonography etc.
• Computer is used in robotics technology.
• Now time computer is a very important thing in the research center. Ex. Bio-chemical research center, medical research center, genetic lab, nuclear research center etc.
• Each and every country is used computer in defense system.
• Video editing, graphics design and also used in cinematography.

Apart from these, computers have been used for a number of purposes to make life easier: Online shopping, Bill payments, Online transaction, Net meeting, E-mailing, Social networking (Facebook, Twitter), Video calling, Online news reading, Ticket booking etc.

Advantages of computer:

• The computer can work for a long time, which is not possible for humans.
• Can solve the complex problems very quickly.
• Computer can design anything very well.
• With the help of computer we can store big size of data easily.
• It is very easy to communicate with different parts of the world through computer.
• Now it is possible to trade in the stock market by computer sitting at home.

Dis-advantages of computer:

• Increasing people's laziness due to use of computer.
• Many real data can be distorted with the help of computers.
• Increasing data theft.
• It is very easy to destroy information by computer viruses.
• Hacking is increasing day by day.
